INTENSIVE WORKSHOP SERIES DANCE KATHAK
Our workshop programme is carefully planned, the content and intensity geared to your level. We will be working on technique, abhinaya (expression) and tala/laya (rhythm) and examining the history and musical foundations of dance.
The goal of each course is to develop technique and to learn a choreographed item. The classes are accompanied on tabla and vocals.

You wish to explore the fascinating world of Kathak?
This weekend workshop gives you a 2-day introduction to the world of Indian classical dance, even if you have no prior experience.
You will explore basic steps and movements and learn background knowledge of this extraordinary dance form.
The workshop W1 consists of two parts and is specially designed for beginners with no previous knowledge. You will be guided and supported by experienced instructors to develop your dance skills.
For those who would like to delve even deeper into the world of Kathak, we offer offer another workshop in the autumn. In July, our next regular course also begins, which you can join directly. This allows you to deepen your newly acquired knowledge and further develop your dance skills.

WHAT AWAITS YOU
  • Kathak hand movements and gestures
  • Posture and body movements
  • Foot percussion: you will learn about rhythmic foot compositions and the different sounds you can produce with your feet. If you have your own foot bells (ghungroo), you are welcome to bring them along.
  • Dance sequences that you can practise and dance confidently and independently after the weekend.
  • Personal and detailed feedback and help to improve and learn your dance skills
  • The rhythmic dance language of Kathak: you will receive a detailed explanation of the acoustic syllables (Padhant) and we will speak them together. Handout included
  • Introduction to the notation of Teental. This will help you to better understand the structure of your dance compositions. Handout included
  • A brief introduction into the history of Kathak
  • and lots of dancing, learning and practising together
